Not only does Rone prove to be kinder, he also gives Frey his first experience with sexual pleasure. The way Rone makes him feel, physically and emotionally, confuses Frey. He fights against his growing attraction even while he struggles to learn just what his master’s true agenda is.
As Rone infiltrates the dangerous world of privateers, he reluctantly drags Frey in with him. He tells himself that he needs the cover of being a brutal slave owner, but there is no denying his growing need for the boy. As Rone’s mission heats up, the stakes are high, and the alien master and his captive pet will have to work together to survive.

I didn't much like Rone in the last book, and didn't feel that his contrition at the end of it was enough. This book, however changed my mind. I think that his character remained true to what we saw in the last book, but now that we got to see things through his POV, he was totally redeemable.Frey was an interesting addition to the overall story since he wasn't a part of the initial group of boys arrested in the first book. Instead, he was part of a supply vessel crew that was attacked and murdered by rebel Travians, so his experience with them was much more violent than the others - he was truly enslaved. When we first meet Frey, he's been so abused that he's almost been broken, but Rone helps to heal Frey, both physically and mentally. In the end, Frey rose above the scars of his past and chose to be with Rone out of love.

Okay.... We're back to liking this series , I'm happy that Rone has gotten his own story this time. I like the action adventure in this one. Hopefully we'll stay away from the wives, please no more wives, no wives I beg you

The Captive Pet is the 4th installment in the novella series, Alien Slave Masters, and I suggest not reading this title as a standalone. I believe the overall enjoyment will be greater, the connection to the characters, and the understanding of the world-building, if you begin on book #1.
I truly enjoy Samantha Cayto's writing style- these tasty treats are decadent for me. Something I wouldn't want a steady diet, but enjoy the novelty and look forward to the treat when the books are released.
There was a bit of a different feel to this book than the previous installments. Not as dark emotionally as its predecessor, or as light as the first two, yet still with the same flavor. As you've no doubt surmised from the title, one of the main narrators is a slave, held against his will, and the other his reluctant master. So bear in mind there is a gray line where consent comes into play, which may be a trigger for some readers.
Dark fans will enjoy the underlying angst and pain associated with this type of storyline, whereas most romance fans will probably look across the surface and see it as 'mating' in a science-fiction sort of way.
The reader met Rone in the previous installment, in a not-so nice way. So it was a pleasure to be inside the head of our redeemed hero. After the painful events of losing his mate and unborn child due to his sister-in-law's machinations, Rone and his pet creature pose as privateers to infiltrate arms smugglers. There is less of a militaristic vibe and more of a gritty underbelly this go around, with less politics and castes.
Rone inadvertently finds himself the master to a slave he won in a card game, and he now understands how his mated brother felt toward his slave during the events of The Untamed Pet, giving the reader a sense of redemption. Frey, our other narrator, is a kind and giving young man who has been beaten down.
What is on the pages is an exciting adventure involving alien world-building and arms smugglers, uncomfortable 'mating' and 'sharing' in the beginning, which grows into lust on both parties' behalf, with a healthy dose of romantic HEA.
I look forward to my next serving of this decadent treat, and recommend this series to MM Romance fans who enjoy science fiction, including the angst and darkness of dubious consent.

I've read all 4 books in this series and must say, I enjoy each one just alittle bit more. Rone comes off as a bastard, especially in the previous book, but you can see the softer version of him as the book progresses. I hope there will be another in this series.
The MC is so cute and adorable! Steamy hot read, if dubious consent sex is your cup of tea. This book might just be my favourite one of the whole series. Each book has a HEA, so there is sweetness and love in there for everyone.
No. Just no. This book was pretty much rape from page one on. It was inconceivable that Frey would fall in love with his rapist because Rone fed him and gave him a few reach arounds. Rone had no redeeming qualities that I could see; he saw that Frey was intelligent and had feelings and continued to rape him whenever and justify it by giving him an orgasm. Slaves cannot give consent. This whole story was horrifying.
