Alexandra Fletcher loves her job as a junior editor in a team at a prestigious publishing house. At a fancy launch party, she bumps into John Burden, an author. She finds him unbearably arrogant and lets him know it. His response is unexpected and shocking. In the back alley of the hotel, where the party is held, John Burden shows her what he feels about being snubbed by her. The showing includes some removal of her knickers and some rather painful contact with the palm of his hand.

Alexandra wishes she had never met this brute of a man. Fate wishes differently and she is forced to work closely with him and his upcoming novel, too close for Alexandra' s comfort.

To add to the complications, John Burden is a man Alexandra finds irresistible, at least when she isn't reminded of his arrogance and his harsh treatment of her. It would be so much easier if he didn't insist on expressing his displeasure in such a hands on way.

This story is the tale of a woman named Alexandra who is out of touch with her own feelings. She meets an author, John Burden, and she takes an instant dislike to him. The first page or so left me quite confused until I figured out that what the author was describing was reality combined with Alexandra's out of touch perception of said reality. We hear her thoughts and the feelings associated but they don't match up to what is being described. Several pages later the reader comes to understand Alexandra hopelessly misinterprets not only her own feelings but the actions of John Burden; the arrogant author. This is an extremely well told story.

The conflict is centered on Alexandra's inept insight and what happens as a result of her ongoing misinterpretations of John's actions, John's expressions and the meanings she ascribes to them. Misinterpretations within the confines of a romance can be tiresome. The reader, having the benefit of being an objective observer, easily identifies the silliness and errors and how they lead the characters astray. This type of premise, usually, leaves me completely annoyed because the character tends to come off as just plain stupid. Not so here. Alexandra is naive in the truest sense of the word. How the author was able to make Alexandra believable as an intelligent, well educated, professional young woman and at the same time authentically naive and adorably likeable is a mark of skill and talent to be praised.

This story focuses on the development of Alexandra and John's relationship. That John is authoring a book detailing power in relationships is a clever way to keep the reader wondering if Alexandra might be right all along. The power angle is played out by spankings. Alexandra submits to every spanking but misidentifies why she does so. Although she spend a significant amount of time pondering this, she fails to come to a conclusion until the end.

I was slightly disappointed that the fabulous chemistry between Alexandra and John didn't include erotic sex scenes, but the excellence of the total package more than made up for this. I just finished reading this and absolutely had to write this review because this is an excellent story, that is well told, well paced and deserves recognition. Buy it, you wont be sorry.

The Arrogant Author edition by Amanda Dashwood Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Sparks fly when Alexandra meets John for the first time and she's glad she'll never have to see him again. Of course she ends up not only seeing him but having to work with him as well. This story really had more layers than the typical spanking story. It explored the difference between pleasure and punishment spankings, the different levels of trust involved, whether a relationship is necessary, and even does sex a given. As Alexandra explores her feelings for John, she is also forced to explore her feelings and understanding of spankings and they role they play in her life. Some very interesting ideas explored in this story.
Amazing book!!!
The novel is extremely boring, the plot is too weak
The book had 2191 locations on my kindle. The book was about an Author named John and a woman, named Alexandra, who worked for a publishing house. John meets Alexandra and becomes instantly attracted to her. She snubs him, which causes him to give her a bare bottom spanking. Alexandra is mad, humiliated, she runs home to confide in her room mate Catherine. Catherine talks to her and proceeds to spank Alexandra for being rude. Alexandra and John end of working together. John continues to spank her for stupid things, such as being late, or making him confused about his feelings. I can't remember the last time, I gave a book 1 star, but I hated this book and I stopped reading by location 1393. I hated the fact, that Alexandra got spanked by her best friend Catherine, on more than 1 occasion, I hated the fact, that John spanked other woman, while claiming to be in love with Alexandra.
